Stay connected, get early event access, and help support independent literary programming.
Membership helps turn literary discovery into something tangible: events, author opportunities, community resources, regional visibility, and more ways for bookish people to find one another.
Midwest Book Beat is the regional identity of KC Book Beat, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Membership contributions are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law; the deductible portion is limited to the amount exceeding the fair market value of benefits received.
Membership is built for the people who read the books, write them, sell them, make the events happen, and keep showing up for independent literary culture.

Join during the founding period and your monthly rate stays where it is for as long as your membership remains active. If pricing changes later, active founding members keep the rate they joined at. If you cancel and return later, the current rate at that time will apply.
The founding launch period runs through December 31, 2026. Joining during this period lets paid members lock in the rate available when they join, as long as that membership stays active.
Your monthly rate does not increase while your membership stays active. If you cancel and later rejoin, the membership price available at that time will apply.
Yes. You can upgrade at any time. Your new tier will use the price available when you upgrade.
The Story Loft is KC Book Beat's Kansas City-area event space. Partner members receive 3 hours of rental time each membership year, based on availability. It can be used for author signings, book clubs, small workshops, pop-up events, and similar gatherings.
You will receive welcome information after signing up with instructions for community access, member resources, and upcoming opportunities. Partner members will also receive information on claiming their vendor discount, catalog advertising, workshop, and Story Loft hours.
Yes. Paid membership is billed monthly and can be canceled. Canceling ends the locked-in founding rate if you later choose to rejoin.
The catalog is a print publication highlighting authors, bookstores, bookish businesses, events, and literary life. Partner members receive one complimentary full-page advertisement in each of our two annual catalogs while their membership is active and in good standing at the catalog deadline.
